Tech ME Founder, Jerry Odili, Meets With Ambassador Walter Carrington

Tech ME founder, Jerry Odili, spent the afternoon with Ambassador Walter Carrington and John F. Bray (U.S. Consular General). They spoke on how to solve social issues in Nigeria and the important role young people play. Walter Carrington served as United States Ambassador to Nigeria from 1993 -1997 during the military era. He was a strong advocate of democracy and spoke up for social justice.

The first day they entered the only computer laboratory in Ajegunle, Ajeromi-Ifelodun Local Government Area of Lagos State, to learn coding, they were all very scared to touch the computer. Their fear was not unusual — about 70 per cent of them had never touched a computer before, let alone operated it. BOARD OF TRUSTEES Jerry Odili is the founder and CEO of Tech ME. He is a socialpreneur with a passion for technology. After working in the banking industry, his desire for creating positive social change led him to form a nonprofit organization with a focus on ending extreme poverty through the promotion of education and the economic empowerment of the youth. He has developed as well as implemented education and entrepreneurship programs which have directly empowered more than 3,000 people. Jerry sits on the board of several nonprofit organizations, including Save Our Needy. Aisha Bello is an ardent Tech and Python community enthusiast with a strong desire and passion for social change, women’s tech education and empowerment in Africa. She is one of the founders and co-organizers of PyLadies Nigeria, a bi-monthly meetup where she teaches women and girls how to code in Python and now serves as part of the global Django Girls Support Team.
